Harewood House is a country house in West Yorkshire, England. Designed by architects John Carr and Robert Adam, it was built between 1759 and 1771 for wealthy trader Edwin Lascelles, 1st Baron Harewood. Harewood is seated in more that 100 acres of gardens and houses a collection of paintings by masters of the Italian Renaissance, family portraits by Reynolds, Hoppner and Lawrence, and modern art collected by the 7th Earl and Countess. The house is still the family seat of the Lascelles family with David Lascelles being the current eighth Earl of Harewood. His grandmother was Mary, Princess Royal, daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, who married the 6th Earl of Harewood, thus becoming Countess of Harewood, and whom lived at the house and died there in 1965. The house also served as a convalescent hospital during both the First and Second World Wars.

"She has natural grace, a very open personality, and a beautiful face and posture… She has already developed a perfect sense of Royal responsibility, she brings life, a delightful sense of humour, and joy into the room when she walks in."
